Finding a way with words
Writing a book is something Sally thought she would never be able to accomplish, but whilst out in the countryside, Sally made many observations of the wildlife and landscape all around her and started making notes, with the idea of creating a story for children.
She mentioned this to a friend and was persuaded that the ideas were worth developing, and alongside her writing, she was also encouraged to go back to her love of drawing to create the illustrations for her first book.
Putting the two together, The Magic Oak Tree, took shape and before long she had a finished book, featuring pencil illustrations of birds, animals and insects in gentle colours.
Now just eight months later, Sally has written her second book, Billy and the Hunt for the Hairy, Scary Bear. Aimed at small children, it is a fun chase of discovery. Illustrated this time by graphic artist Lynne Custance, it is a lively, colourful story with a touch of humour.
Both books are now available here on the shop page, and also from Waterstones via their website.
